Funded by National Institute of Nursing Research (F31NR0113599) and National Science Foundation (Grant # 1243422) to the NSF Center for Child Injury Prevention Studies Road traffic injury rates are among the world’s highest in rapidly developing economies like urban India. This mixed methods study conducted with a multinational corporate partner examined safety attitudes and behaviors of employees in Bangalore and Pune. Incongruity exists between employee knowledge and safety practices. A local preference for interventions and policy-level actions was found. Multinational corporations can employ a variety of strategies to improve road traffic safety including: implementing a corporate traffic safety policy, making local infrastructure changes to improve road conditions, advocating for road safety policies with local governments, and providing employees with education, safety equipment, and transportation options.
