Beats Per Minute: Exploring the Impact of Violence and Neighborhood Conditions on Adolescents in Philadelphia Neighborhoods

After completing her PhD last year, former PISC trainee Dr. Kalen Flynn has recently received a honorary mention of the 2019 Society for Social Work and Research Outstanding Social Work Doctoral Dissertation Award, which will be presented to her at the 2019 SSWR Annual Conference in San Francisco, CA. Titled Beats Per Minute: Exploring the Impact of Violence and Neighborhood Conditions on Adolescents in Philadelphia Neighborhoods, Dr. Flynn's winning dissertation describes the importance of young adults' self-described experiences with violence in their communities, and how this lack of first-person accounts impacts various policies and practices.
