The Effects of Closing Urban Schools on Students’ Academic and Behavioral Outcomes: Evidence from Philadelphia

As schools close due to decreasing enrollment rates and underperforming academics, many cities have been experiencing changes in displaced-student and receiving-student populations -- Philadelphia, especially. As investigated by Matthew Steinberg and PISC Executive Committee member John MacDonald, these changes include increased absences for displaced students, decreased achievement for receiving students, and other developments that impact Philadelphia youth.
