US Emergency Department Encounters for Firearm Injuries According to Presentation at Trauma vs Nontrauma Centers

For many individuals who encounter non-fatal firearm injuries, an emergency department (ED) visit is their only contact with the healthcare system. But despite such an influx of patients, violence prevention and intervention practices have not been established in such settings. Because of this, lead author and PISC past trainee Edouard Coupet, Yanlan Huang, and PISC Senior Scholar Kit Delgado have analyzed firearm injury patient visits to EDs in the United States in hopes of pinpointing the situations and settings in which ED violence prevention programs could be established.
