Naloxone Availability and Pharmacy Staff Knowledge of Standing Order for Naloxone in Pennsylvania Ph


A recent study led by Rachel Graves and involving PISC current trainee Elena Andreyeva and Executive Committee member Zachary Meisel has discovered that despite a standing order to facilitate access to naloxone, a drug designed to quickly treat opioid overdose, there are still major barriers in the way. In particular, the study found that there was lack of knowledge or understanding by pharmacy staff of the standing order and variability in cost, amongst other limiting factors, and concluded that incentives and education efforts may go a long way towards accomplishing increased awareness of naloxone in pharmacies.
