State Gun Laws, Gun Ownership, and Mass Shootings in the US: Cross Sectional Time Series

Conducted by a team including PISC Executive Director Douglas Wiebe and Senior Scholar Charles Branas, this study aimed to determine whether restrictiveness-permissiveness of state gun laws or gun ownership was associated with mass shootings in the US. It found that states with more permissive gun laws and greater gun ownership had higher rates of mass shootings as well as growing divide between restrictive and permissive states, indicating a greater need for more connective policies.
