Epidemiological studies consistently show an association between wildfire-related smoke exposure and negative effects on respiratory health. Led by PISC Senior Scholar Michelle Kondo, this study reviewed evidence in published literature pertaining to heterogeneity of respiratory effects from the aforementioned exposure in North America. While the study found evidence that certain demographic subgroups of the population are more susceptible to respiratory health outcomes from wildfire smoke, it is unclear whether any implementable policies could arise from such results.
