Enacted in March 2010, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) aimed to achieve universal health insurance coverage through a combination of mandates, subsidies, marketplaces, and Medicaid expansions. A little less than a decade later, this study, contributed to by PISC past trainee Ben Ukert, evaluated the impacts of the ACA on health care access, risky health behaviors, and self‐assessed health. It found that the ACA led to sizeable improvements in access to health care in both Medicaid expansion and non-expansion states, but did not find clear effects on risky behaviors or self‐assessed health.
