Racist Cop Facebook Posts are a Public Safety Problem


Featuring PISC Senior Scholar Dan Romer, this opinion editorial written by the Philadelphia Inquirer Editorial Board discusses the emerging issue of Philadelphia police officers' inappropriate usage of Facebook. The issue is not only contained to Facebook, seeing as it has real life consequences -- Buzzfeed News found that 139 out of the 505 police officers that posted offensive messages were sued at least once for a civil rights violation, and Romer's study was able to follow up with the discovery that officers with rapidly accumulated negative marks were three times more likely to discharge their weapon.
