Network Exposure And Excessive Use Of Force

Contributed to by PISC Trainee Jason Gravel, this study examined how police officers’ exposure to peers accused of misconduct shapes their involvement in excessive use of force. The results showed that excessive use of force complaints were predicted by having a greater amount of co-workers with a history of such behaviors, and implies that future studies into social networks within police departments may help with diffusing intervention strategies. The study was also featured in a CBS Chicago news article, found here.
