Falls and Cognitive Training 2 (FaCT2) Study Protocol

The primary cause of traumatic injury in older adults is falls. Recent reports suggest that cognitive function contributes significantly to fall risk. In this study, PISC Senior Scholar George Demiris, PhD, FACMI, along with researchers from the University of Washington and Harborview Injury Prevention and Research Center are targeting cognitive function for intervention to potentially reduce the incidence of fall and injury. Falls and Cognitive Training 2 (FaCT2) study protocol: a randomised controlled trial exploring cognitive training to reduce risk of falls in at-risk older adults explores the effectiveness of a 16-week cognitive training (CT) intervention. Projected outcomes include number of falls over a 16-week period and measured change in fall risk.
