The Role of Personal Health Information Management in Promoting Patient Safety in the Home

Home Health care is the fastest growing sector of the US healthcare system. With this rapid expansion, it is important to examine the concept of patient safety in the home and personal health information management. In a study led by PISC Senior Scholar George Demiris, PhD, FACMI, how personal health information management can be a facilitator for patient safety in the home is explored. The findings of this qualitative analysis demonstrate the physical, emotional, social and functional dimensions of patient safety in the home and concrete ways for informatics tools to maximize safety aspects.
