Hospice and palliative care teams face significant barriers when exploring the values, preferences, and goals that inform serious illness care. To support these medical teams, a recent study featuring PISC Senior Scholar George Demiris, PhD, FACMI, describes the social problem-solving model and the integrative model of shared decision making in depth. The two models are goal-directed and complementary. By outlining these resources, the team hopes to support the “collaborative relationships between hospice and palliative care teams and the patients and families they serve.”
