Compelling Voices of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Pre-Licensure Nursing Students


A recent article featuring PISC Trainee Helena Addison, MSN, RN, addresses the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in nursing. Although many nursing educators find it challenging, nursing education provides an optimal opportunity to implement these values. The article describes how to utilize the cultural humility framework in the curriculum. A practical example of a DEI curriculum is provided, including characteristics such as openness, supportive interaction, self-awareness, and self-reflection. The team concludes that diversity, equity, and inclusion work in nursing “is essential for preparing future nurses to deliver culturally competent care and promote health equity.”
