Community Safety as a Social Determinant of Health: A Workshop

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s Roundtable on Population Health Improvement will conduct a hybrid public workshop December 6, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. ET, and December 7, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET, to discuss various dimensions of violence and community safety in the United States. This workshop will bring together researchers, practitioners, leaders, and others with expertise in violence prevention and promoting community safety to:

• Define community safety
• Examine the landscape of threats to safety affecting specific populations
• Explore attributes of physical spaces and social structures that create and reinforce safer communities
• Discuss frameworks for reimagining public safety, and related policy and programmatic interventions

Terry Richmond (Research Core Director) and Tyrique Glasgow (Community Action Board Member) are two of the featured experts in this workshop.
