Augustine Cassis Obeng Boateng, MPH, BSN, RN

Doctoral Student, Department of Family and Community Health, School of Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania
Trainee
Focus Areas: Healing & Recovery | Opioid and Overdose | Physical & Social Environment | Trauma Systems | Violence & Firearm Injury

The path to recovery for individuals who survive gunshots and other forms of severe violence is often marred by PTSD, anxiety, depression, sleep disturbances, and substance use disorders. Cassis’s work seeks to elucidate the influence of spirituality on different dimensions of mental health among survivors of firearm violence. Through advanced statistical modeling, mixed methods and geospatial analysis, he works with an interdisciplinary team to explore the causal relationships between spirituality and biomarkers of mental and physical health. He is a Hillman Scholar in Nursing Innovation at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing and a Fellow at the Yale Program for Spirituality, Religion, and Medicine.
