The Stand Your Ground Project

Over the last 15 years a range of laws have been enacted across states in United States that enhance the rights of individuals to use lethal force in self-defense. These laws are collectively known as stand your ground or shoot first laws.

The Stand Your Ground Project is a collection of research led by researchers at the University of Oxford, the University of Pennsylvania and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. The study seeks to examine the impact of changes to self-defense laws on physical injury, violence and crime in states enacting these laws since 2000. The project is funded by The Joyce Foundation (Grant ID: 18-38016) and The Fell Fund (University of Oxford).

The investigators include: Douglas Wiebe, Michelle Degli-Esposti, and David Humphreys
